Gerda survived a 350-mile death march in the bitter cold of winter.Using the internet, find somewhere approximately 350 miles away from our school. How does this help you further understand the importance of Gerda Weissmann Klein's story of survival? Respond to what you have found in the comments section. Make sure you note the destination 350 miles away from HOMS, and try to find a destination that is different than what has already been posted.

Rock Island Illinois is 348.2 miles away from HIdden Oaks Middle. I think it is extremely sad because if you are driving it takes 5 hours and 12 minutes now imagine walking there.
ReplyDeleteChamberlaind, SD is 345.3 miles away from Prior Lake, MN. I can't even imagine walking all the way to South Dakota. It takes about 5 hours and 27 minutes to drive there. Think about how long it would take you to walk that long. It is so sad to think that thousands of people had to walk in the dead of winter that far.
ReplyDeleteRock Island Illinois is 348.3 miles away from Hiden Oaks Middle School, Prior Lake. I think it would be very trying and terrible walking about 350 miles to a place you most likely have never been. To not even know what is there. I, alone don't like being in the car for 5 hours and 15 minutes so I know I would not like walking there.
ReplyDeleteMilwaukee, Wisconsin is about 355 miles away from Prior Lake. I cannot even imagine walking that kind of distace. And then you add the snow on top of it all, its horrible! To Milwaukee, its about 5 hours and 26 minutes by car. I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like walking on foot.
ReplyDeleteState Street, Bettendorf, IA is about 349 miles away from hidden oaks middle school walking that far without much food and probably not clean water would be a nightmare. Also if I walked that far I would be as good as dead when I got there.
ReplyDeleteOmaha, NE is 346 miles away from hidden oaks middle school. It takes around 5 hours 36 minutes to drive there and if you were to walk there it would take weeks or maybe even months and would be so tiring.
ReplyDeleteCouncil Bluffs, IA is 356 miles away. I can't believe people walked that far in the snow! They didn't much food, water, and some didn't even have shoes. Its crazy that they walked that far and then they were abandoned. I can't even imagine!
ReplyDeleteChicago, IL is about 348 miles away from Hidden Oaks Middle School. i am amazed that anyone survived walking that far in the winter with little food and water, some of them didn't even have shoes. i don't think i could walk that far in the summer with food, water, and shoes. it is Unimaginable and sad to think that people forced other people to walk that far.
ReplyDeleteMy cabin, Lake Vermilion, is about 346 miles away taking a long route. I could never walk that far, it takes about 5 hours to drive to Lake Vermillion and I could never imagine walking that, but at least there is motivation to walk to Lake Vermilion because there is so many fun things to do there. The death march had no motivation to go because they did not know where they are going and a lot of them had no shoes and not warm clothes on them.
ReplyDeleteJamestown, ND is about 342.4 miles away from Hidden Oaks Middle School. I can't imagine walking that far in the snow. I can't believe people had to walk that far with very little food and water, and some of them did it without any shoes. It takes about 5 hours to drive Jamestown. I don't want to think about what it was like to walk there.
ReplyDeleteHidden Oaks to Rockford, Illinois is about 350 Miles. My cabin is a 3 hour drive and that is about a quarter of the way there and it takes 3 hours by car. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to walk even to my cabin! Even with no food or water and really bad shoes or even no shoes!
ReplyDeleteBrownhill, Nebraska is 316 miles away from Prior Lake. I'd have such a hard time walking such far distance. And without shoes would make it 10x worse. Walking in the bitter cold, knowing you may not survive. It's horrible. I can't believe Nazis made Jews do such horrid things.
ReplyDeleteFrom Prior lake to Davenport, Iowa is 346 miles . Wow, that gives me a different thinking of how far they really had to march. It was actually harder to find a location then I thought because everybody kept taking the one that I found But o well. It would take 5 hours and 37 minutes to drive their by car.
ReplyDeletePierre, SD is 386 miles away from Prior Lake, MN. I think that would be the hardest thing ever to walk that far with barely any food, shoes, or clothes. If I ever had to go through that I dont think I could ever forgive the people whp put me through that. I admire Gerta for being so strong and forgiving.
ReplyDeleteFrom HOMS to Neebing, ON, Canada it is about 346 miles. I dont think that I would be able to make it, especially with almost no food, clothes, and shoes. I complain about walking just one mile I couldnt imagine walking 350 miles with no days in between to rest. It would also be a lot harder walking in the middle of winter through all the snow, I cant even walk across the street for school in the winter without complaining.
ReplyDeleteOslo, Minnesota is 351 miles from Prior Lake, Minnesota. That gives me a way different perspective on what they went through. Considering they walked that, in the winter, with barely and food or water, and no shoes.
ReplyDeleteWarrod, MN is 360 miles away from Prior Lake, MN. It is unbelievable people could walk in those conditions. The fact that Gerda walked so far and stayed alive is amazing. I wouldn't ever last that long and stay alive. The women who survived and attempted to are inspirations.
ReplyDeleteOmaha, NE is about 364 miles away from Hidden Oaks. It is amazing that people even have the strength to walk that far in one period of time. I can't believe they did that and i never would want to do that. It makes me tired even thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteMilwaukee Wisconsin is about 350 miles away from prior lake Minnesota. I am so amazed at how far that all those people had to walk. I dont think I could ever do that. Even the fact that some walked in the deep snow with no shoes on! O M G
ReplyDeleteChicago is almost 350 miles away from our school and I think that is unbelieveable that she could walk that far and survive without having days to rest I sure couldn't go that far without eating alot of food and having time to stop and rest.
ReplyDeleteKarlstad. It is 345 miles away from Hidden Oaks in Prior Lake. In the car it would take about 6 hours and 1 minute! It would be 344 miles on foot for 112 hours! I honestly don't know how she did it! I sure couldn't with no stopping for snacks or water.

My friend lives in Chicago, IL and that's 348 miles away from Mn I can't imagine walking all the way over there with out any shoes on and without stopping to get some rest or anything!
